If you are wanting to operate a forward tipping dumper on site, then you will need to hold a recognised plant training card.
Objectives:
The CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) is one of the most widely industry recognised schemes.
The CPCS forward tipping dumper course for novices is a 3-day course and is ideal for delegates who have little or no experience of operating a forward tipping dumper.
The course covers both the theoretical and practical elements of dumper operation which are required to be able to take and pass the tests.
What is the Course Content:
- Employer’s and employee’s legal responsibilities
- Hazards arising from the use of dumpers
- Basic maintenance and pre-use inspection
- How to reverse correctly
- Techniques for operating the dumper
- Towing
- High tip and swivel machines
What Does the Exam Consist of:
Delegates will need to take a verbal theory test and complete a practical assessment.
Once delegates have passed both tests, they will receive a red Trained Operator CPCS card in A09 Forward Tipping Dumper which will remain valid for 2 years. Please note that this card is not renewable.

Prerequisites:
All delegates must have a basic understanding and knowledge of current health and safety practices.
Delegates must also hold an in date Health, Safety and Environment touch screen test (must have been passed within the previous 2 years).
Next Steps:
Once delegates have gained enough experience of operating the dumper, and within 2 years of obtaining their red Trained Operator card, they will need to complete a level 2 NVQ in forward tipping dumper. Then they will be able to apply for a blue Competent Operator card which remains valid for 5 years.
