Who is EUSR?
The Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) is an innovative digital platform that acts as an all-inclusive information hub for energy and utility industry experts. EUSR certified professionals have successfully completed training or assessment on one or more of our programmes, and their achievements are meticulously recorded in their EUSR registration, which also includes their qualifications and authorisations. An individual’s EUSR record may comprise multiple scheme registrations with varying expiration dates to ensure a comprehensive database of their professional development.
Upon registration, individuals are provided with a unique EUSR ID number and a photo ID card featuring their current endorsements and expiration dates. As a fundamental component of the Energy & Utility Skills Group, EUSR is committed to providing a dependable and expansive resource for professionals in the energy and utility industry.

EUSR training course Category 1 Training Course
Our training programme is designed to provide individuals with the skills they need to locate utility services using approved detection techniques in a safe and efficient manner. EUSR training course Category 1 Course Objectives
This training programme offers attendees a complete understanding of how to effectively use a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and signal generator to confirm the location of essential services on a worksite. Additionally, participants will receive detailed guidance on how to accurately interpret and analyse service plans and drawings, enabling them to carry out their work in a more efficient manner. This training programme is designed to help attendees develop essential skills and knowledge, ultimately leading to improved job performance and increased productivity.
EUSR Training Course Category 1 Course Duration
The one-day training programme will be led by seasoned trainers who are well-versed in conducting the EUSR category 1 course. Their qualifications and expertise make them ideal for the job. EUSR Southwest Category 1 course content:
- Relevant legislation and how it relates to using equipment such as CAT and Genny
- The purpose of the CAT and genny as they relate to construction works
- The purpose of carrying out an on-site survey of existing services and the different types of surveys available
- The correct PPE that delegates will need to wear
- How to identify different services from site plans and in-situ in the ground
- The hazards and risks of working in and around existing underground services
- The different functions of the CAT and what they mean
- The different functions of the genny and what they mean
- BSI PAS 128 – understanding what this is and what the different survey types are under BSI PAS 128
- How to deal with damaged services and what the implications are of service strikes
EUSR training course Category 1 Assessment and certification
In order to ensure that our representatives possess the necessary skills and knowledge to identify and mitigate workplace hazards, we have implemented a collaborative task. This task will allow us to assess their competency in this area.
Furthermore, we will be utilising advanced tools such as CAT and Genny to monitor their progress and determine optimal service locations. Upon completion of the required training and exceeding our stringent standards, our representatives will be awarded an EUSR card that will remain valid for up to three years.

- Safe digging practices around underground services including digging of trial holes and supporting excavations correctly
- BSI PAS 128 is – understanding what this is and what the different survey types are under BSI PAS 128
- How to deal with damaged services and what the implications are of service strikes
- How to identify different soil types when excavating and the dangers of collapse
- How vibration and water ingress can affect the stability of an excavation
- The requirement for correct segregation when working around excavations
- How to comply with environmental requirements regarding the storage of excavated soil
