If you have never operated a ride on roller (ROR) before, then you will need to take an industry recognised training course.

OBJECTIVES:

The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) course for novice operators for ride on roller will give delegates the knowledge and practical experience to be able to use ride on rollers safely and in compliance with all relevant regulations.

Quality Safety Training’s expert tutors will deliver high quality theoretical and practical training over 2 days that will furnish them with the skills necessary to operate a ride on roller on site.

The test for the novice ride on roller course will be taken on the third day.

Who is the course for:

  • Anyone who has never operated a ride on roller or had any type of training or instruction.
  • Or anyone that might want to brush up on their skills, perhaps if they’ve been out of the industry for a while.

Any Other Requirements:

  • All delegates must have taken and passed the CITB H,S&E touch screen test for operatives within the last 24 months.
  • Also, some understanding of construction site health and safety would be beneficial.

    Course Content:

    Delegates will be taught the following:

      • What their responsibilities and roles as a roller operator are
      • How to carry out pre-use inspections and routine maintenance
      • Proximity hazards including overhead and underground services
      • How to operate the roller safely on site
      • Operating the roller in space restricted areas of site
      • How to compact different materials correctly including good compaction techniques
      • How to shut the roller down correctly and secure it
      • How to load and unload safely, for transportation purposes

    Exam Content:

    The exam consists of 2 elements:

    • Verbal theory test
    • Practical assessment

    Delegates must pass the theory test before they will be eligible to take the practical assessment.

     

    What qualifications will delegates receive:

    Delegates will receive a red CPCS Trained Operator card that remains valid for 2 years.

    During the 2 years that the card is valid for, delegates must get practical on-site experience as well as complete a level 2 NVQ in ride on roller.
