Delegates that have never operated a ride on roller (ROR) before will need to take a novice Ride on Roller course.
OBJECTIVES:
The novice Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) for ride on roller will ensure that delegates will be able to use ride on rollers safely and in compliance with all relevant regulations.
This novice ride on roller course is 3 days in total which allows for 2 training days with tests on the third day.

Who is the course for:
- Any delegate that has not received any formal instruction or training in how to operate a ride on roller
- Any delegate that requires a refresher course in operating a ride on roller
Prerequisites:
- Delegates must have completed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment touch screen test within the last 2 years
- A good understanding of health and safety on construction sites

What does the course cover:
- The basic components, construction, controls and terminology specific to ride on rollers
- What delegates roles and responsibilities as a plant operator are
- How to manoeuvre in confined areas
- Pre-use inspections and checks
- Hazards such as overhead and underground services
- Travelling around on site
- Compacting duties including how to compact in straight lines, radii, supported and unsupported edges
- The principles, requirements and techniques of good compaction
- Shutting the machine down and securing it
- Loading and unloading for transportation
What does the exam entail:
- Verbal theory test
- Practical assessment
What card will I get:
Delegates that successfully pass both the theory and practical elements of the exam will receive a red CPCS Trained Operator card that remains valid for 2 years.
During the course of the 2 years that the card is valid for, delegates must get practical on-site experience as well as completed a level 2 NVQ in ride on roller.
