EUSR Category 1

Who is EUSR?

The Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) is an online platform that houses the records of training and skills for professionals in the energy and utilities industries. Those who have completed EUSR training and/or assessment on one of our schemes have their achievements documented on their EUSR registration, which may also include their qualifications and authorisations. Each individual’s EUSR record may contain multiple scheme registrations with varying expiry dates. Upon completion of registration, individuals receive a unique EUSR ID number and a photo ID card displaying their current endorsements and expiry dates. As a part of the Energy & Utility Skills Group, EUSR is committed to providing a comprehensive and reliable resource for professionals in the energy and utilities industries.

EUSR Category 1 Course Objectives

Participants will gain knowledge on the effective utilisation of a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and signal generator to verify the availability of services on location. Additionally, they will receive comprehensive training on interpreting and deciphering service plans and drawings for efficient implementation.

EUSR Category 1 Course Duration

The EUSR category 1 course will be instructed by our esteemed instructors, who possess significant industry experience and have conducted this course for several years and will be facilitating this one-day training programme.

EUSR Category 1 COURSE CONTENT:

  • Relevant legislation and how it relates to using equipment such as CAT and genny
  • The purpose of the CAT and genny as they relate to construction works
  • The purpose of carrying out an on-site survey of existing services and the different types of surveys available
  • The correct PPE that delegates will need to wear

Upon fulfilling the training and exceeding the required criteria, delegates shall receive an EUSR card that will remain valid for three years.

Who Needs a EUSR Category 1 Card

The EUSR Locate Utility Services Category 1 certification is designed to benefit individuals who rely on utility drawings, use location equipment for identifying underground services, or require knowledge of the potential hazards associated with hitting underground services. This certification is particularly useful for managers, supervisors, safety professionals, and operatives who are responsible for operating underground services detection devices. By obtaining this certification, individuals will be better equipped to mitigate the risks and dangers of working with underground services, ensuring a safer workplace for themselves and their colleagues.

What is an EUSR Card?

If you are employed in the fields of water, power, or gas, then you may be required to obtain an EUSR card. This type of card is specific to utility workers and serves as an alternative to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card. While the EUSR card does provide access to construction sites, it is limited to utility workers. This means that only those with the necessary skills and qualifications are able to carry out their job responsibilities on these sites. Upon fulfilling the training and exceeding the required criteria, delegates shall receive an EUSR card that will remain valid for three years.

How Long is a EUSR Card Valid?

The EUSR card only allows you to carry out your role as a utility worker. Whereas, the CSCS card is for those who need to carry out their role as a construction worker. CSCS cards are valid for five years, whereas EUSR cards can be valid for three to five years depending on the courses you complete.
