Safety Pass Alliance – SPA Safety Passport Courses

Core, Petrol Retail and Refresher Units available:

The Safety Pass Alliance (SPA) is the awarding body responsible for accrediting the renowned Safety Passports. If you’re looking to work on, in, or around a Petrol Garage – each individual contractor must hold the Petrol Retail Passport to be eligible to work. Whether you are contracted to perform maintenance on the fuel pumps, work on the forecourt canopy, or even maintain a coffee machine within the forecourt store – you must hold a valid Petrol Safety Passport.

Quality Safety Training provides SPA Safety Passport training on-site, nationwide, at affordable rates. Whether you have one delegate or 15 people to book, please see our range of courses below. You can submit an enquiry using the form on this page, or get in touch with our team for more information.

What is the Safety Pass Alliance (SPA)?

The Safety Pass Alliance (SPA) is the awarding body responsible for the Safety Passport – a series of training awards designed to prove competency in an array of trades – such as construction, and Petrol contractor work.

SPA courses are designed to provide delegates with an understanding of their health and safety responsibilities at work in compliance with their legal requirements.

What is the Safety Passport?

SPA has designed and implemented Safety Passport programmes, comprised of training courses delivered by accredited training providers such as Quality Safety Training.

The SPA Safety Passport initiative is recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as a cost-effective programme; bolstering safety awareness and contributing to elevated standards of Health and Safety and Environmental consideration.

Safety Passports: Core Petrol Retail Contractors

SPA has devised and accredited a variety of Safety Passports for different industry sectors. For instance, Quality Safety Training offers courses for the Contractor Petrol Retail Passport. Earning the Petrol Retail Safety Passport involves successfully completing both the one-day Core module, and the one-day Petrol Retail course.

Quality Safety Training is delighted to offer both of the above courses, as well as the Core + Petrol Retail ‘Refresher’ course.
The Refresher has a completion window – a refresher course may only be completed within 6 months of the original Safety Passport expiry. SPA no longer offer a ‘grace period’ after expiry, meaning the refresher MUST be completed expiry.

What is SPA?

The Safety Pass Alliance (SPA) is an independent awarding body responsible for the development of the suite of Safety Passports. Established over two decades ago, SPA works closely with employers, employer associations, trade unions, national trading organisations, and other relevant bodies to create training programmes tailored to meet the unique needs of each sector.

Examples include working with the UK Petrol Industry Association (UKPIA), the Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC) and the Production Services Association (PSA) to create relevant, beneficial and comprehensive Safety Passport schemes for different industries. We will go more into the different forms of SPA Safety Passport further in this article.

Safety Passport Courses

SPA has developed a number of Safety Passport courses relevant to different industries. These courses can be delivered by an authorised Training Provider, with the courses available to complete either online or in-person (delivery varies by course specification).

Quality Safety Training is proud to be an SPA Training Provider, and we currently deliver the Core course, the Petrol Retail (Forecourt Contractors) course, and the Core and Petrol Retail combined refresher course. If you’re looking for a Safety Passport course, we would be happy to help. Get in touch with our dedicated team to make an enquiry or book your SPA course.

What about CCNSG Safety Passports?

CCNSG is the abbreviated name of the Client Contractor National Safety Group. The CCNSG Safety Passport is a construction specific passport often used as a benchmark for ensuring safety competence when working on site.
Much like the CSCS card, holding a CCNSG Safety Passport means a contractor can be considered safe (and therefore eligible) to work on a construction site.

The origins of the CCNSG Passport stem from a consortium of steel, oil, and chemical manufacturers who agreed to standardise their health and safety training. This decision led to the growth and refinement of the training principles which the CCNSG bases itself around to this day.

Holding a CCNSG Passport is similar to holding a CSCS card, in signalling to other contractors that a delegate is safe and competent.

Taking the tests online

Sometimes it can be preferable to take your exams and courses online, in the comfort of your own home or workspace. This sentiment rings true with the SPA Safety Passports: online courses can prove to be a more comfortable and convenient option for many of us.

However, as we set up our infrastructure, we are able to offer online Safety Passport courses in a limited capacity. Please get in touch with our team for more details.
